Ceramics BFA

Shawnee State has an excellent concentration in ceramics. The program has a fully equipped studio suite of six rooms, including two rooms of high-end, computer controlled gas and electric kilns and electric wheels. An emphasis on the material and understanding of three-dimensional form is at the core of this discipline.  Functional and non functional ceramics are covered in great depth offering multiple avenues of study for the student to pursue.  T

This studio concentration prepares students for graduate programs and studio entrepreneurship. This program is designed to bring the student to a high level of aesthetic theory, development process and technical skill in their focused studio area.

A student who has successfully completed a degree in Ceramics may have career opportunities, or further study, in areas which include:

  • Sculptor
  • Potter
  • Studio Artist
  • Jewelry Designer
  • Decorative Tile Designer
  • Dinnerware Designer
  • Decorative Surface Designer
  • Museum Curator
  • Gallery Curator

General Education Program 34 Hours

Art Core Requirements  30 Hours
Art Studio Concentration 30 Hours
Art Studio Electives Choose ARTS or 24 Hours
  ARTG outside your concentration.  
General Electives Chosen from courses other than ARTX. 6 Hours
