POLS 3250 - Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy

This course examines the relationship between Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy as both ideals and as actual Political-Economic Systems. Specific and detailed attention is paid to the experience of the Soviet Union and other former Socialist countries, with respect to their experience with “actually existing Socialism”, the transition to Capitalist Economies and the challenge of creating genuine Democracy. The course also explores the possibility of a genuinely Democratic Socialism.
