EDRE 6305 - Content Area Reading: Current Research and PracticeThis 3-credit semester hour course examines current research and practice in the area of content area reading. The emphasis in the class will be on the development of ways to think about comprehension and the use of content reading strategies within the context of effective instruction and current research. Examination of the nature and meaning of comprehension, strategic teaching and learning, and what it means to learn with texts will occur. Successful strategies will be identified using timely support and justification from research. Historical credence will also be considered. Selected strategies will be implemented. Outcomes from the implementations will be reflectively and dynamically examined couched within the tenets of current research as well as historical validity. An Undergraduate degree is required for this course.
