The Alternative Licensure Program Pathways allow candidates to complete the requirements of the State of Ohio’s Alternative Resident Educator Program. Shawnee State University’s School of Education is a state-approved Alternative Resident Educator Institute (AREI) and Professional Development Institute (PDI) for completion of these requirements.

Students will work with the Graduate Program Director from the School of Education to determine an appropriate schedule to meet the requirements of the AREI and PDI programs. Courses currently approved for this program include those in the following pathway lists.

Candidates who complete both the AERI and PDI course requirements with SSU will be able to count those credit hours of graduate-level courses toward the Master of Education degree in eith the Curriculum and Instruction or Intervention Specialist concentration. Only a few additional courses will be required to earn the entire Master of Education degree in either concentration.
