Electromechanical Engineering Technology Student Outcomes (SOs)

By the time students graduate from the Electromechanical Engineering Technology program, they are expected to have:

  1. An ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline.
  2. An ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline.
  3. An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.
  4. An ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes.
  5. An ability to function effectively as a member or as a leader on a technical team

Computer Requirement

All students in the B.S. Computer Engineering Technology, B.S. Digital Simulation and Gaming Engineering Technology, and the A.A.S. Electromechanical Engineering Technology degree programs are required to purchase a laptop computer for use in class.  Many vendors offer academic discounts to university students.  See the respective vendors’ websites for more information on how to take advantage of these discounts.

Bachelor’s Degree Pathways

Miami Articulation Agreement - Bachelor’s Degree in Electromechanical Engineering Technology: Individuals who have completed this degree at Shawnee State may continue their education in the electromechanical technology completion program from Miami University to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Electromechanical.  For additional information, contact Jason Witherell at Shawnee State, 740.351.3113, e-mail jwitherell@shawnee.edu.

Bachelor’s Degree in Plastics Engineering Technology: Students can double major in Plastics (Bachelor’s) and Electromechanical (Associate) at Shawnee State. This pathway would likely require 10 semesters at Shawnee unless the student entering Shawnee with transfer credit or College Credit Plus credit.   For additional information, contact Jason Witherell at Shawnee State, 740.351.3113, e-mail jwitherell@shawnee.edu.

Math Placement

The co-requisite course for ETEM 1110 Electrical Fundamentals 1 (DC) and ETCO 1310 Fluid Power is MATH 1200/MATH1200A College Algebra, or Higher. Students placing below MATH 1200A based on the math sub-score on the ACT, SAT or other accepted placement exam, do not meet the co-requisite to enroll in ETEM 1110 or ETCO 1310.

If an entering student’s math placement score places them below MATH 1200A, remedial courses (such as MATH 0101) may be taken to get to the reqiured level but these remedial course do not count as academic credit toward earning this degree.

Degree Requirements

Math and GEP 17 Hours
Natural Science Courses 8 Hours
Electromechanical Courses 26 Hours
Computer Engineering Courses 16 Hours
Total Hours Required 67 Hours
