Return to: Degrees and Programs (Graduate and Undergraduate)
The Master of Arts in Composition and Rhetoric will provide its graduates with a foundational understanding of the history, theory, practice, and research studies that inform the teacher of writing. Courses in written composition have become a standard requirement at most colleges and universities in the United States; such courses develop students’ ability to think critically, synthesize information, and construct written arguments about important topics. This graduate program seeks to prepare instructors for the challenges of teaching written composition courses at the college level.
Students who complete the MA in Composition and Rhetoric will be able to:
- Situate their scholarship and pedagogy in the field of composition and rhetoric.
- Design courses, assignments, and assessments that reflect current best practices for teaching writing.
- Reflect upon their successes and failures as scholars and educators, and use these experiences as opportunities for growth.
The program requires a minimum of 30 semester hours, with a typical completion time of two years.
