English/Humanities (Communication - Concentration) BA

The English/Humanities degree with a concentration in Communication is an excellent option for you if you wish to pursue a career in journalism, corporate communication, publishing, public relations, editing, or media criticism. The degree requires 120 hours, including 32 hours in the communication core and 6 hours of electives.

Learning Outcomes for the B.A. in English and Humanities (Communication)

Students who complete the English & Humanities Communication concentration will be able to:

  • situate texts within a historical and cultural context;
  • analyze texts through the lens of literary, cultural, rhetorical, and/or linguistic theory;
  • compose effective arguments supported by relevant evidence from primary and secondary sources; and
  • demonstrate understanding of communication theories, perspectives, principles, and concepts.

Degree Requirements


General Education Program 40 Hours
  Further information is listed in the General Education Program  in the current catalog or can be obtained from the dean’s office. Students taking English/Communication concentration may use ENGL2200 and COMM1103 to fulfill requirements in both the GEP and the major.  
First Year Experience: University Foundations 1 Hour
English/Humanities Courses 45 Hours
Communication Core Courses 14 Hours
Communication Specialization Tracks 15 Hours
Electives 6 Hours
   
Total Hours Required 121 Hours
