The Health Care Administration Bachelor of Science in Business degree helps prepare you for a career in the health care industry. Graduates of the program find employment as health service managers with organizations such as hospitals, clinics, health maintenance organizations, assisted living facilities, home care agencies, nursing homes, and other community based care settings. In addition, the program provides excellent preparation for graduate study in business or health care administration.

Students electing to follow the Long Term care concentration are eligible to take the State and Federal Nursing Home Administrators’ Licensing Exam upon graduation.
Students in the current Long Term Care track are required to complete an 800-hour AIT (Administrator-in-training) internship. Effective July 1, 2018, all students new to the program will be required to complete a 1000 hour AIT internship, per our accrediting body, the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB). At that time, the internship credit hours will increase from 8 to 10.
Accreditation
The Long-Term Healthcare Administration program is accredited by the National Association of Long Term Care Administration Boards (NAB). This accreditation allows students who complete the bachelor of science in business administration degree with a concentration in Long-Term Healthcare Administration to sit for the state and national nursing home administration licensing exams. NAB approves programs whose curriculum provides the content and practical experience necessary for a student to gain the competencies to be a successful licensed nursing home administrator. The program at Shawnee State University is the only business degree program in Ohio with this accreditation.

Students choosing the long-term care track in the health care administration program at Shawnee State are entering a challenging and growing career field. As the population ages, the needs of elders and those with disabilities increase. Graduates with this degree are competent to manage and work in home health care, assisted living, and other health settings and facilities designed to care for elders and those with disabilities.
The health care administration program offers a solid business base with courses specific to health care administration. It provides the graduates with a variety of employment opportunities in the rapidly changing health care environment. This program also provides the necessary courses in preparation for graduate school.
Class Scheduling
Health care administration courses are offered late in the afternoon and in the evening to accommodate the working professional.
