Return to: Degrees and Programs (Graduate and Undergraduate)
The Photography Minor provides students with the opportunity to include a creative and artistic practice with other academic pursuits, thus allowing them to enhance and expand their educational knowledge and experience.
Learning how to effectively visually communicate is a valuable tool in the toolbox of skills needed in today’s professional world. More photographs are created daily than ever before, and understanding how to create, manage, and utilize high quality photographs will benefit professionals in so many careers.
Photography is also a rewarding means of self-expression. Many persons who have full-time careers in other fields, find photography as an outlet for their creative mind. It is a means of personal fulfillment, or a way to express personal artistic desires. Besides use in various professions, photography can also be used to record important personal and family activities, document important events, preserve histories, and communicate information to associates.
Successful graduates of the Photography Minor will be able to:
- Develop proficiency in the tools and techniques relating to contemporary digital photography.
- Understand how to use ambient and supplemental lighting to create well-lit photographs.
- Identify, articulate, and support constructive criticism about their own work and the work of colleagues.
- Be able to adjust, correct, and manipulate digital images to produce quality digital photographs, for a variety of purposes.
