The College of Health and Human Services is focused on preparing the next generation of competent, confident professionals who provide care within healthcare and human services organizations in the region and beyond. Graduates from our programs fulfill the mission of improving the health and well-being of the individuals, communities, and populations served by these organizations.By preparing students for successful professional practice in their chosen discipline, we accomplish our vision of educating innovative, collaborative providers who make a difference in their communities.

We enact our vision through meeting our mission, which is: “Providing flexible pathways to in-demand health and human service careers by SUPPORTING student-centered collaborative learning, SHAPING innovative CHHS Professionals, and UPLIFTING organizations and communities”
Through our School of Nursing and departments of Allied Health Sciences and Rehabilitation Sciences, we offer three graduate degree programs, six bachelor’s degree programs, seven associate degree programs, two minors, and three certifcates. The majority of program offerings in the College of Health and Human Services are accredited by external accreditation bodies which ensure the curricula meets rigorous standards. Additionally, most degree programs include clinical placements in hospitals, clinics, schools, and other sites who partner with our faculty to offer exceptional learning experiences. Students’ learning experiences in the college’s undergraduate associate and baccalaureate degrees are well rounded, and include courses from the General Education Program in the arts, humanities, mathematics, natural sciences and social sciences. In addition to disciplinary coursework, General Education courses provide the foundation for critical thinking and life skills expected of a college graduate. Our graduate programs provide graduates with the ability to obtain entry and advanced level practice roles in occupational therapy and nursing.

Programs across the college have a reputation for excellence, and employers consistently seek our graduates for employment in their organizations. Students in our graduate programs engage in meaningful scholarly inquiry to address the needs of their profession, and opportunities for professional presentations and publications are available to graduate students in the college. In addition to teaching excellence, faculty engage in scholarship and research activities, providing all students with the opportunity to pursue new knowledge and the clinical application of research evidence in their professional field. Faculty are engaged in active service at the local, regional, state, and national level. Service is evidenced through partnerships with agenices and organizations to meet the needs of the community, as well as engaging in leadership roles within the campus community and professional organizations. The college has been awarded several major grants which are supporting the growth of our programs and facilities, and we continue to seek funding support that advances our mission.

Academic Advising
The College of Health and Human Services is committed to quality academic advising because it is essential to the ultimate success of our students. Our professional advisor and selective admissions team provides academic advising and guidance for our selective admission programs and they are here to assist you with the selective admissions process for programs that have admission criteria related to accreditation standards clnical placement availability. The Chairperson of your Department or Director of your School will assign you an academic faculty advisor, ensuring that the academic advising system meets your individual needs and requirements as well as those of the Department/School, the College, and the University. Please consult your academic advisor each semester prior to registration for guidance with course selection, sequence of courses, discussion about career paths, and suggestions to build your resume and skills for your chosen career. The Dean of the College of Health and Human Services facilitates the answering of interdepartmental questions and deals with exceptions and changes to related academic requirements.

Selective Admission Programs
Students who are seeking admission in selective admission programs within the College of Health and Human Services (Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Medical Laboratory Technology, Occupational Therapy [Assistant, BSOT 3+2, MOT, OTD], Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, and Respiratory Therapy) need to meet the minimum admission requirements of the desired program, and will complete an additional application. For all undergraduate selective admission programs, students should meet as soon as possible with the appropriate admissions representative.
