EDPI 2241 - Teaching Developmentally Appropriate Mathematics IITeacher candidates will analyze the teaching content of mathematics for grades Pre-K-5, from both the traditional and special-needs perspectives. This course is designed as an in-depth study of the basic concepts, methods of applications of algebra, geometry, measurement, data and problem solving. This course will develop the candidate’s ability to use a variety of manipulatives, instructional materials/strategies, assessment methods, and accommodation techniques to support children’s mathematical thinking and reasoning. The mathematical content of this course will focus on Ohio’s Learning Standards for Mathematics, and the Standards for Mathematical Practices. Instruction will focus on the development of these concepts through demonstration, exploration, and discussion using hands-on manipulatives and appropriate technology.
