Explanation of Prerequisites

Most learning beyond basic skills is dependent upon mastery of some prior skill or subject content. As a result, many courses at the University require the satisfaction of prerequisites prior to course enrollment. Prerequisites may be met by successful completion of the prior courses listed or by placement, via testing, into the course.

The academic division/college may withdraw a student from a course for which prerequisites have not been satisfied.

    This course is designed to provide students the necessary skills to conceive and build small three-dimensional models. The objective is to develop the students’ ability to conceptualize and create small three-dimensional sculptures. They will be used for the game and simulation development art program.   • ARTS 3531 - Documentary Photography 1

    Credits: 3
    A historical study of documentary photography will initiate the students understanding of documentary photography.  Truth and objectivity will be analyzed.  The art of visual story-telling will be cultivated by photographing several projects throughout the semester.  The student will explore the intents of communicating visually, as well as creating art.  Students will create an in-depth documentary project.  Classes will primarily be critique sessions, slide lectures, and group discussions.  Special attention will be given to editing, sequencing, and presentation.  Students will examine the cultural and personal factors that influence perception and how they affect the representation of the subject.  Still-photography, multimedia, and video documentary projects will be investigated.     This course introduces the fundamentals of studio photography as it relates to both commercial and fine art work.  The student will be exposed to basic photographic lighting theory and practical application in a controlled studio environment.  The use of various lighting equipment, styles, and techniques will be explored.  Techniques available through the use of digital cameras and digital manipulation softwares will be explored, as well.     This course covers the principles of traditional and contemporary portrait photography.  The student will be exposed to continuous and strobe lighting techniques.  Projects will be in controlled studio environment and location environments.  Various portrait styles and lighting techniques will be explored.  Digital retouching and color correction relevant for portraiture will be covered.   • ARTS 3553 - View Camera Techniques

    Credits: 3
    The view camera has been a special tool of a photographer for decades.  The successful student will learn how to employ the precision and detail available through the use of a view camera.  Studio, and out-of-the-studio, projects will give the student the opportunity to apply various camera adjustments to control focus, shape and perspective within an image; and, use currently accepted methods to capture images and output archival photographic print, and digital files. Prereq: ARTS 2512 and ARTS 2513 lecture hours 3

    Students will receive an introduction to interactive media and screen-based graphic design. An overview of the technologies common to the design industry will be presented.     The student works with a business to produce work in their chosen concentration. The position must be approved by the instructor. The student must work three hours per week per credit hour for 15 weeks. A portfolio of work created is required. Prereq: Faculty consent required.

    Introduces the profession of athletic training, the roles and functions of the certified athletic trainer, and standards of practice of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and the State of Ohio Athletic Trainers Licensing Board.   • ATTR 2300 - Athlete Health Maintenance

    Credits: 3
    Study of modern health concerns of today’s physically active population. Focus on drug use/misuse, ergogenic aids, sports nutrition, and additional concerns regarding the physically active. Pharmacological applications, including the awareness of the indications, contraindications, precautions, and interactions of medications, and the governing regulations relevant to the treatment of injuries to and illnesses of athletes will also be covered. Required course for Athletic Training and Exercise Science majors.
  
  • ATTR 2890 - Lower Body Intensive Clinical Techniques and Practicum

    Credits: 2
    This experience is structured to provide the student with the opportunity to develop competency in the five domains of athletic training. The clinical focuses on the recognition, rehabilitation, and health administration of athletic injuries involving the lower extremity. The focus of the course is networking previous skills of management and rehabilitation with proper communication within the entire sports medicine team.  1 credit hour of direct supervision and 1 credit of indirect supervision.     Techniques and procedures that athletic trainers use to evaluate and treat athletic injuries to the upper extremity.     This course provides an in-depth study of the principles, objectives, indications, contraindications, and progression of various modes of conditioning and reconditioning exercises. Special attention is given to the interaction between human physiology and the therapeutic aspect of exercise. Methods for evaluation, progress assessment, and development of return-to-activity criteria are discussed and implemented. Clinical laboratory experience included.   • ATTR 3500 - Therapeutic Modalities

    Credits: 4
    Advanced athletic training course that focuses on the ways in which human anatomy and injury mechanisms are affected by the use of current athletic training modalities such as ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, iontophoresis, and massage. Special attention will be given to indications and contraindications for each modality, as well as how it fits into the larger treatment plan. Required for Athletic Training majors.     A follow-up to BIOL2250.  An introduction to the identification of herbaceous and woody plants that flower in the time span of mid-March to May in the east-central United States.  In addition to species recognition, major emphasis will be placed on helping students develop the ability to recognize and apply plant family characteristics through keying.
