General Education Program


Philosophy and Religion majors are permitted to count 9 hours from the following courses, which are required for the major, toward satisfying GEP requirements.  This would result in three of these four GEP categories being satisfied.

Engaged Citizenry PHIL 3360 Political Philosophy
Ethics PHIL 2320 Ethics in Public and Private Life
Global Perspectives RELI 3300 Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
Historical Inquiry PHIL 2200 Introduction to Philosophy, or
PHIL 2284 Asian Philosophy, or
RELI 2230 History of Christian Thought

Credit Hours Required in the Major (33 Credit Hours)

Religious Texts (3 Credit Hours)


These courses introduce students to the content of major religious texts as well as some of the major theories and schools regarding their proper interpretation.  Choose one from among the following. 3 credit hours.

Student may choose any course from the following to complete the requirements for the major. 3 credit hours.

Special Notes


All Philosophy and Religion students must earn a “C’ or higher in all required courses for the major.
