The Reading Endorsement program at Shawnee State University provides a series of specially designed courses and field experiences leading to a reading endorsement in this specific licensure/certificated area. The endorsement covers Kindergarten through Grade 12.
This program is designed for both preservice students and in-service teachers. In-service teachers applying for reading endorsement need to be assigned a reading advisor prior to admission into the program. A brief checklist of requirements determines courses needed for completion of the endorsement.
EDRE 4406, EDRE 4407, and EDRE 4485 must be taken at Shawnee State in order for the Department of Teacher Education to recommend a student to Ohio Department of Education for reading endorsement.
Students must take the Praxis II Introduction to the Teaching of Reading Exam and successfully complete a Reading Portfolio based on IRA/NCATE standards and the five DTE competency domains. Contact Dr. Jeradi Cohen at jcohen@shawnee.edu or 740-351-3048 for more information.
