PTAT 1111 - Introduction to Physical TherapyThe purpose, philosophy, history and development of the physical therapy profession, including the function of the American Physical Therapy Association. The development of the Physical Therapist Assistant, duties, function, legal responsibilities and scope of practice, including medical ethics and standard documentation. Emphasis on the Twelve Core Professional Values of Physical Therapy from the 2006 PTA Normative Model; such as altruism, duty, integrity, and accountability. Communication, teaching and learning, cultural sensitivity, rural health care, relational conflict management, wellness and disability models are taught. Students will be trained in OSHA, HIPAA, as well as discussion on the psychosocial aspects of care.
