Clark Memorial Library

Clark Memorial Library serves on-campus and online students, faculty, and other members of the Shawnee State University community. Opened in 1991, the library prides itself on being the students’ space and provides areas for students to study or relax individually and in groups. Users have access to group study rooms with 40” monitors and whiteboards. Other areas of the library are conducive to quieter study. In partnership with the Student Government Association, the library contains the Bear Cave, a 24/7 hybrid study space with access to desktop computers and laptop charging stations. Classrooms and lecture halls are available in the library for university courses and library instruction. In addition, students have convenient access to the Writing Center and Information Technology Services (ITS) located on the first floor.

Both online and on-campus students have many methods of receiving research assistance. In addition to scheduling in-person research appointments (one-on-one research help), students can chat online with a librarian or trained staff member, participate in a research appointment using the web-conferencing tool Zoom, as well as e-mail or a call a librarian.

Clark Memorial Library has over 350 databases accessible to students both on campus and off-campus. Through the use of OhioLINK, students also have access to resources in academic institutions throughout Ohio. This free and user-friendly system provides students with an excellent extended collection of research sources, both electronic and print.

Information literacy instruction is a high priority for librarians. Students learn a nuanced approach to working with information. In addition to developing traditional research skills, they learn about the reflective and responsible use and production of information.

Clark Memorial Library supports the mission of the university by actively assisting students throughout their time at Shawnee State University in becoming successful academically, in their future careers, and as citizens.
