This option within the bachelor of science in mathematical sciences program prepares you to be a teacher at the secondary level. Graduates have a broad background in the core of undergraduate mathematics and a firm foundation in professional education coursework, together with a strong general education component.
This degree also provides the broad quantitative skills that have allowed for careers in fields other than teaching high school mathematics, such as those associated with the generalist degree. Additionally, many graduates of this program return to Shawnee State to enroll in our completely online Masters of Science in Mathematics to earn the credential necessary to teach dual credit courses for college.
Students in this program are strongly encouraged to meet, on a regular basis, with an advisor from both the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Teacher Education.
Students will use their proficiency in statistics and mathematics to do the following:
- Formulate and solve problems in the mathematical sciences.
- Communicate advanced mathematics.
- Prove mathematical statements.
