Criminology Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Degrees and Programs (Graduate and Undergraduate)

The criminology minor is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide students with an understanding of the causes, social functions, societal reactions, nature and application of criminal law.  Rather than a technical program which focuses on applied skills (e.g. vocational skills), this minor will focus on human behavior and the social environment.  This program will educate students in diverse theories exploring the many social dimensions of crime and current criminal justice policies.

Students must complete 21 hours of coursework to fulfill the criminology minor. No more than nine credit hours (or three classes) from any baccalaureate major may be double counted toward the minor in criminology.  Courses with grades below a C will not be counted toward the completion of the minor in criminology.  Courses taken on a pass/no-credit basis are not applicable.  Any variation from the program described requires advisor and chair approval.  Students are encouraged to take MATH 1500, Principles of Statistics, as well as coursework in sociology, psychology, economics, political science, and American history.

Criminology Content Courses (15 Hours)

Choose a total of 2 courses (6 credit hours) from Groups 1 and 2; and, 1 course (3 hours) from Group 3.
