These courses are designed to provide an understanding of basic issues regarding the nature of knowledge and reason, and introduce secular and religious approaches to these issues. Students also aquire familiarity with basic philosophical and theological texts. It is recommended that students take these courses before taking other courses in the major.
An emphasis of the program is to gain understanding of the intersection between religion, philosophy, ethics and the political sphere. These courses examine the role of religious and secular approaches to the state and to the common good. Choose one course from among the following in addition to PHIL3320: Social and Political Philosophy.
This course is designed to enable students to bring together and to integrate various elements of the program. In the event that it may satisfy the Senior Seminar requirement, it must be taken to fulfill that requirement.
