2+2 for Students Who Complete the Legal Assisting Program

This program is designed for students who have completed the associate degree in legal assisting at Shawnee State University and who wish to pursue a baccalaureate degree.

Degree Requirements


Completion of Legal Assist. Prog. 68 Hours
Additional General Ed. Program 25 Hours
Additional Social Sc. Core Courses 15 Hours
Additional Social Sc. Core Courses Electives (3000-4000 level) 24 Hours
   
Total Hours Required 132 Hours

Legal Assisting Program (68 Hours)


Includes 12 hours of the General Education Program (GEP) and 6 hours of social science courses. (For a list of all the required courses for the Legal Assisting Associate Degree Program please refer to the Legal Assisting Technology, AAB  program—or contact the dean of the College of Professional Studies for more information). Social science majors must take SOSC 1110 Foundations of Social Sciences in satisfaction of the Social Science component of the GEP.

Additional General Education Program (25 Hours)


Includes the GEP courses that have not already been taken within the legal assisting associate degree program. The categories that need to be completed are as follows:

Quantitative Reasoning (3 Hours Minimum)
Fine and Performing Arts (3 Hours)
Natural Sciences (7 Hours Minimum)
Cultural Perspectives (6 Hours Minimum)
  Western & Non-Western  
Ethics (3 Hours)
Senior Seminar (3 Hours)

Additional Social Science Core Courses (15 Hours)


Social science majors must achieve a minimum grade of “C” in each social science course (both in the Core and Upper Division categories) in order to graduate. Majors cannot double-count courses that satisfy both their major and GEP requirements or both their major and the legal assisting associate degree program. See your advisor for further information.

Unless otherwise noted all courses listed below are each 3 semester credit hours.

Upper Division Social Science Electives (24 Hours)


In consultation with your faculty advisor, select 24 credit hours of upper division social science electives from any of the following disciplines:

  • Anthropology (ANTH)
  • Economics (ECON)
  • Geography (GEOG)
  • Government (GOVT)
  • History (HIST)
  • Psychology (PSYC)
  • Sociology (SOCI)
  • Social Science (SOSC)
