ECSE 4283 - Professional Practices

Credits: 3
In this 3-hour course, students will learn about the collaborative practices associated with the Ohio Improvement Process. Students will learn collaborative strategies in working with all children, parents, school and community personnel; and, intra- and inter-agency relationships are examined to include benefits, processes, and problem-solving techniques, and respect for cultural and linguistic diversity, noting how this is addressed in various learning environments. The emphasis is on the importance of communication, teaming, monitoring, and periodic review of the prescribed individual program. Teacher candidates will engage in professional dialogue to discuss the characteristics of 21st Century Learning, and the shifts in professional practices influenced by Common Core State Standards and the P21 Framework, as evidenced by discussion board posts, interview reflections, and in-class activities, including interaction with guest speakers. Students will reflect on knowledge gained and its potential impact on professional goals and classroom practices. They will also set plans for increasing knowledge in weak areas, as evidenced by self-assessments, reflection, and presentations. Prereq: Admission to Teacher Education Level 3. lecture hours 3
